My six weeks Thailand itinerary and what I would have done differently

Six weeks Thailand itinerary

I have spend 1,5 months traveling through Thailand (on a budget). Here I’m gonna tell you all about my route, everything I did and what I would have done different.

What I have to say: I booked everything spontaneously and I do recommend you to do the same. Sometimes you will like a place more than another one and want to stay longer.

1. Bangkok (4days)

My first stop was Bangkok. A lot of people have told me not to start with this city, because it might be too overwhelming since it’s my first time ever in Asia and I might not enjoy it that much.

In my experience I can say: they were wrong.

After a 30hour trip, I arrived in Bangkok in the morning, around 7am and took the train and a tuktuk to my hostel. There I left the bags and decided to go out. I didn’t get very lucky with the weather. It was raining horribly and yes in the first moments it was a little bit overwhelming. But soon I got used to the city. I was so amazed by all the surprises this city brings. We were gonna stay 3 days but extended to one more.

Here is a list with everything we did:

2. Chiang Mai (4days)

How we get here: We took the night train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. It was really comfortable and costs about 20€ each.

I was supposed to spend 4 days in Chiang Mai, but accidentally made a mistake with my booking, so I only stayed for three days, I would recommend you 4 days anyway, so you have some more time.

3. Krabi (Ao Nang) (5days)

We took a plane from Chiang Mai to Krabi. I spend 5 days in Ao Nang. I think it was the perfect time to explore the area and also visit the phi phi islands.

4. Koh Lanta (4days)

We took a bus to Koh Lanta and it’s a good way to get there. The island is the perfect place for you if you want some empty, relaxing place. The island is pretty small. You can get around with a scooter. Most people stay in the northern part. the more south you get, the more nature you will find. In the end of the island there is the national park.

5. Phuket (5days)

DISCLAIMER: I did not like Phuket at all and would not recommend you to stay here. Nevertheless tit was part of my itinerary. If I would be you, I would visit another island instead. For me it was Koh Phangan that I didn’t visit but really would have liked to visit instead of Phuket. BUT if you`re on Phuket already or you really wanna go, here is how to make the best out of it:

5. Koh Samui (7days)

Koh Samui was honestly one of my favorite islands in Thailand. There are lots of things to do, there are fun faves and nice beaches.

5. Koh Tao (5 days)

Koh Tao is a small island and famous for the scuba diving. But also if you are not a fan of scuba diving or you are not planning on scuba diving, it is worth to go there. The island is so small that it is easy to get around (if you are driving a scooter).

6. Bangkok (3days)

Since you’re probably flying back home from Bangkok, I would recommend you to spend one or two more nights here. You can get some last souvenirs, a cheap manicure and pedicure or a massage. Enjoy the Thai culture at it’s fullest for the last time until it’s time to go back home.

I hope this itinerary has helped you to plan your trip and get a better image of some of Thailands places. If you liked it, I would be happy if you follow me on instagram where I am consistently posting about my travel journeys, as well as photography 🙂
